Research Project: (1-2 sentences):
We are developing a label-free, non-invasive cell sorter capable of purifying stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes (SC-CMs) from the mixture of cells that results from a typical embryoid body or directed differentiation protocol. The technology is based off of second harmonic generation (SHG), a nonlinear optical process that occurs quite strongly in sarcomeric myosin. We are also using SHG to image the contractile dynamics of immature SC-CMs.
